Haitian-born music star Wyclef Jean led an army of celebrities Wednesday in an urgent appeal for aid following the devastating earthquake which rocked the star’s Caribbean homeland – Haiti.
Wyclef Jean has always been working to help Haiti and its people. In 2005, Jean established the Yéle Haiti Foundation. In its first year of operation, the foundation, with funding by Comcel, provided scholarships to 3,600 children in Gonaïves, Haiti, after the devastation by Hurricane Jeanne.

In its second year of operation, the Yele Haiti Foundation by Wyclef Jean is almost doubling the amount of the scholarships and spreading them throughout Haiti, providing tuition in 5 regions. The foundation aims to provide 6,800 scholarships to children in Port-au-Prince, Gonaïves, Les Cayes, Port-de-Paix, and Cap-Haïtien.
Wyclef Jean, who was born in Haiti but moved to the New York area as a youngster, is a roving ambassador for his native country Haiti and has worked with the United Nations World Food Program to help tackle food shortages in the country.
