A 1.5 billion dollar worth building will be set to rise in Dubai soon. The crews back in Dubai are just finishing the final preparations for the opening of the what’s going to be the world’s tallest skyscraper- the Burj Dubai

The official height of the building has not been released to the press and has been well-guarded by the developer Emaar Properties. An interesting report says that the only the spire of the building itself is 800 meters tall. The official building height will be announced at the official evening ceremony by Mohammed Alabbar, the chairman.

The building boasts the most stories and highest occupied floor of any building in the world, and ranks as the world’s tallest structure, beating out a television mast in North Dakota. Its observation deck on the 124th floor also sets a record. What’s soon to be a great landmark in Dubai is made out of glass and metal with each floor costing 9 million dollars to build.

Security is expected to be tight. Local newspapers quoted Maj. Gen. Mohammed Eid al-Mansouri, head of the protective security and emergency unit for Dubai Police, saying more than 1,000 security personnel, including plainclothes police and sharpshooters, will be deployed to secure the site for the opening.

Work on the Burj Dubai began in 2004 and continued rapidly. The Burj’s opening comes at a tough time for Dubai’s economy.

The city-state  with the tallest building in the world to date turned to its richer neighbor Abu Dhabi for a series of bailouts totaling $25 billion in 2009 to help cover debts amassed by a network of state-linked companies. Burj developer Emaar is itself partly owned by the government, but is not among the companies known to have received emergency cash.

  1. i think this is very stupied to bulid. They should be sepending there money too good use. Not something we already have and there trying to make better! 1.5 billion dollars to make a pice of work thats not even going to be standing for a while. The world is going to end one day and when everything falls down apon the earth that worthless tower is going with. I know they already built it but to set it to rise is another. How are they going to rise this huge tower? i have no clue but somebody should put a stop on this NOW. Dont go through with this its going to end up a mess and most cerntly a wase of our beautiful money!
