This was one of the breaking news today. A “Wipeout” reality show contestant was confirmed dead after a rare condition. Reports say that Tom Sparks, along with his wife were playing in a Wipeout episode to be aired next year when he got knee pain. After it was noted Sparks was also having trouble breathing, Medics on set decided to halt the game. He died of a stroke after numerous brain surgeries. The stroke was caused by APS or antiphospholipid antibody syndrome, the Doctors said.
This very sad occurrence is a reminder of the risks involved on reality television. So we better be careful as we will never know what will happen next. Producers have a list of qualifications that must be fulfilled for consideration.
Each contestant must be in good physical shape to compete in every event without risk or prone to distress. Of course this doesn’t apply to game shows, but it most certainly applies to reality shows such as Amazing Race and Survivor. The highest concern on the sheet for any reality TV star has to be medical qualification.
There is also an intellectual aptitude test. So you better pass all of it before you’ll be accepted in a certain reality show.
Reality shows are really dangerous so we should be very careful and we should be skeptical before joining such shoes, specially Wipeout.
