The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers are heavy 96.8 percent favorites over the Winthrop Eagles.
Third-seed Winthrop overcame a five-point deficit midway through the second half and defeated top seed Coastal Carolina on their home court, 64-53 in the Big South Conference finals at Kimbel Arena.
The defensive key for Winthrop was shutting down Chanticleers’ forward Joseph Harris, the Big South Conference Player of the Year runner-up. Harris was held to three points on 1-of-6 shooting and five rebound.
Robinson led the Eagles with 14 points while Matt Morgan added 12 Justin Burton chipped in with 11. Andy Buechert corralled a game-high eight rebounds.
Robinson was named the MVP of the tournament while Morgan, Reggie Middleton, Gray and Johnson joined the Winthrop senior forward on the all-tournament team.
