This is the first time that the pageant will take place outside the Island of Luzon. The venue for Miss Earth 2009 coronation night was planned first to be held in Cebu City, but the Mayor declined due to financial cost of sponsoring the pageant. The Boracay Ecovillage Resort and Convention Center won the right to host the coronation night of the 9th Edition of Miss Earth.
