Just recently, a shark attack has been reported to have taken place off Florida’s coast. The victim is a kite boarder. Daniel Lund says he was on his lifeguard tower Wednesday afternoon when he spotted Stephen Howard Schafer, the kite boarder, about a quarter-mile offshore in apparent trouble. It took Lund 20 minutes to paddle out on a long surfboard, fighting against 6- to 8-foot waves.
The 38 year old man is the first person to die in a shark attack in Florida in five years. Lund saw Schafer in distress in the water and went on a large surfboard to save Stephen. He brought him back to shore and rushed him to hospital but Stephen died soon after.
The authorities are investigating what types of sharks killed Stephen. Experts say that shark attacks in Florida have been rare and it is surprising how Stephen was attacked on a Florida beach. There have been reports however that some beaches have closed because of shark sighting.
