Russian Nightclub Fire: fireworks blast in Russia killed 109 people

109 people have died after an explosion at a nightclub in the Russian city of Perm, 1,400 kilometers (870 miles) east of Moscow. Authorities said the fireworks that caused the explosion, and that most victims died from smoke inhalation.

More than 140 people were injured in the incident, which occurred at 2315 local time (1815 GMT). Lame horse nightclub was celebrating the eighth anniversary and emergency services.

Regional Public Security Minister Igor Orlov, Itar-Tass: “There were no fireworks launched to the scene, one with a roof of plastic, and the establishment of the flames of all the people to panic and succumbed to burns and crush of the gas poisoning.

Perm has a population of 1.2 million people, is the sixth largest city in Russia.

Kuvshinov Svetlana, who was in the club when the fire started, said the fire “It took seconds for the spread of the disease.

“It was like a pile of straw. There was only one exit. Almost stampede,” Associated Press quoted him as saying.

Another witness told local television: “When I started the fun, when exposed to heat, they light fireworks.

“When I turned, I saw coming down from the ceiling and then there was a lot of smoke. Later, this huge flame moves along the ceiling,” said the unnamed woman.

A spokesman for the Research Unit of the Attorney-General’s main news agency Itar-Tass that he was a terrorist attack.

“We are talking about a violation of the regulations of the fire,” he said.

The Russian government has established a special committee to deal with the incident.

Regional officials said the fireworks used in the party was too large for in indoor and intended for use in the outdoors.

Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said that two aircraft are equipped to transport the injured with serious burns were transferred to Perm.
