PS3 Network Down Updates: Why Sony Playstation Network Still Down? – As of Sunday, many video game users of the popular online gaming via Playstation Network were reporting Playstation network problems.  Many angry gamers who use the original Sony Playstation 3 video game console were reporting they could not connect to the online gaming world, with some also adding they couldn’t play certain games offline that require synchronizing with online data.  Sony confirmed the PS3 network down news via their PS3 blog and Sony PS3 Twitter profile.

Although Sony says it will have a fix by this morning, it has not yet said what went wrong. Anecdotal evidence points to a combination of DRM and firmware issues rather than a network outage. Affected units have their system date set to Dec 31, 1999 (something impossible to do manually, according to PS3 News) or January 1st 2000 and the consoles are only able to play non-protected games.

Sony says it is aware of the problems and is trying to find a fix as soon as possible releasing an update this morning to try and eradicate the errors. But not stating why these problems on PSN have occurred in the first place.

Apparently the Playstation network problems are isolated to only the original PS3’s and not the newer slim models.  An article at wired.com offers insight into why this issue happened.  Many are speculating over why the PS3 network is down, with some saying it could be a combination of firmware issues with DRM.

Sony is continuing to experience problems with its PlayStation network after a weekend of errors including, logging users out of the service and preventing them from playing online games, game trophies being deleted from consoles and previously downloaded games cannot be played offline. These problems have even effected their latest release Heavy Rain which could not be played offline.

Still the issue which is expected to be fixed as of Monday morning has many angry PS3 gamers wanting to get their gaming back online.  Follow the latest updates from Sony at the PS3 Twitter profile found here.
