A 6.8 magnitude quake shook some islands of the Philippines which resulted to quite a number of death and casualties. More 24 hours after the quake and the number of deaths already reached 40 excluding those who were not yet recovered. Aftershocks are still felt in the area up to this time that made the rescue and retrieval operations more difficult.
A tsunami alert was also raised after the quake yesterday which made the residents fled to the mountainous area. Approximately 1005 aftershocks were recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology until afternoon today.
The earthquake had struck about 70 kilometers from the coastal city of Dumaguete in Negros. The fault where the epicenter was located is an inactive fault that’s why the quake was purely not anticipated.
At times like this, it would be faster to act if the community has a little “know-how” in technology particularly in telecommunication and utilization of multimedia. It would better to start building multimedia training school Philippines for the locals. It would be quite expensive but would be very helpful in the future.
Through effective utilization of multimedia equipment, photos, information and location can be transmitted fast thus needed help can be obtained as well.
The rescue and retrieval operations on the affected areas are still ongoing and some of the residents are still hoping to survivors.
