Oprah Winfrey became emotional when she made the announcement November 19, 2009 that the Oprah Winfrey show will end on 2011.
The Oprah Winfrey Show has been airing since September 8, 1986 and is set to end on September 9, 2011. Actually, Oprah is not quitting. Her contract to the show was just set to end on 2011. We never know the announcement might be just a marketing strategy.
There were no statements made that Oprah can’t renew her contract for another bunch of years so the possibility of her contract being renewed is still open.
Here are the questions I have about Oprah’s announcement:
Is Oprah timing her announcement to “promote” the new animated film called The Princess and The Frog (being released in December), in which she is one of the voices?
Isn’t giving 18 months notice a bit much? Why didn’t she wait until next season to announce it?
And why are the entertainment shows and news media acting as if she is leaving tomorrow?
I find this very strange timing and the coverage entirely out of proportion with the actual event.
