NASA’s intentional plan of crash an aircraft on one the moon’s dark crater has led to one of the greatest discoveries to collect pieces of evidence on the presence of water on the moon. Anthony Colaprete, chief scientist for the Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite (LCROSS) mission, along with other researchers at NASA were able to detect water vapor and ice on the moon last October 9th in their recently released report.
The mission of NASA was able to quantify approximately 25 gallons of water in the form of vapor and ice. A small amount as it may seem, but the latest discovery has led to assumptions that there could be greater significant quantities on the moon.
