Two Metro track workers were killed today when they were struck by a maintenance truck. The incident took place at the Rockville Metrorail station early tuesday. This is the latest of the accidents that has been plaguing the Washington area’s transit system these past years.
The men were on the track trying to install additional safety equipment on a track that was supposed to be closed to regular service for the night.
One worker died on the scene and the other never made it to the hospital and died on the ambulance.
No names have been released to the media as of this writing because direct families will need to be notified first
The accident site is now under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board so until they are finished with the invenstigation, the area will be closed.
