The American Music Awards were established in 1973 by Dick Clark as a competitor to the Grammy Awards. Now in their 37th year they are recognized as one of the 3 most prestigious pop music awards events, along with the Grammy Awards, and the MTV Video Music Awards, in the U.S.
For the first time in its history, the American Music Awards will not have a host. The ceremonies will take place on Sunday, November 22, 2009. They will be broadcast live from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California at 8 p.m. ET on ABC Television.
