The most recent KFC commercial in Australia made a stir in the after it was dubbed as racist. The ad displays a Caucasian guy in the middle of disorderly Blacks and whose existence was only calmed by a bucket of Kentucky Fried Chicken.
The commercial was recently pulled off by the franchisee of the Kentucky Fried Chicken in Australia after the public reacted to the display of racism in their commerical.
The video shows a disorderly crowd of colored people, most of them are blacks, playing music and having a good time. In the middle of the crowd is a white guy which was placed in an awkward situation. The the white guy says “Need a chciken when you’re stuck in an awkward situation?”. The imagery in the commercial isn’t racist at all but when those words came out from the white guy’s mouth, that’s when KFC got into trouble.
The people behind KFC Australia already released they’re statement with regards to this issue.
We excuse for some interpretation of the ad as it was not meant to breach anyone. It is a light-hearted meaning to the West Amerindic cricket aggroup … The ad was reproduced online in the US without KFC’s permission, where we are told a culturally-based classify exists, directive to the inaccurate declaration of racism.”

This fiasco has highlighted a very significant problem of ignorance. It is amazing that in this day and age a group could be so culturally insensitive.
The group I am referring to is of course the American people who think this is about them and specifically African American people. This is not about you – it is about a cricket supporter from one team (Australia)being caught in the middle of a group of supporters from another team (West Indies).
And indeed it has nothing to do with race (unless you are looking desperately for something to take offence to) – it is about a supporter from one team being caught amongst a group from the ‘opposition’ and making friends with a food offering.
Some in the US are offended by something that was generated for local consumption in Australia. What commentators in the US must realise is that many things coming from your country could be considered offensive to us. We however are culturally aware enough to understand that societies are different and you cannot always interpret things as you would do on a local basis. We understand the differences between the US and us. Please do the same in return.
Seriously???? I thought that the commercial was very funny. I think it is very strange that the black community gets all up and arms about silly stuff like this. The black community had no problem with Cleveland Cavaliers’ LeBron James (a black male) defeating a Chinese ancient kung fu master and then slays a dragon in a Nike commercial; however, when the tables are turned…”How dare they!”…blah, blah, blah. The problem with people today, is we are too darn sensitive! Lighten up world…we have more pressing issues to deal with, than fighting over a silly commercial. BTW…the commerical in China was banned also (as that one should be, after all, the chinese hold dragons dear to their heart)! If you think that blacks hold chicken close to their hearts…maybe, just maybe you are a racist!!!! lol
