According to the US National Hurricane Center, Hurricane Jimena increased its strength to a category 3 storm on Sunday, August 30 off Mexico’s Pacific Coast and headed close to Baja California Peninsula. According to the US National Hurricane Center, Hurricane Jimena increased its strength to a category 3 storm on Sunday, August 30 off Mexico’s Pacific Coast and headed close to Baja California Peninsula.

Hurricanes are rated according their intensity and a hurricane of category 3 are considered “destructive”.

Weather forecasters expected the center of Hurricane Jimena to move parallel to the west coast of Mexico. It was moving northwest at around 12 mph (19 kph).

According to the advisory released by the center, Hurricane Jimena could easily become a category 4 hurricane in the next day or so. There is a threat to those living near southern Baja California.

Meanwhie, previous Hurricane Danny in the Atlantic weakened to just a tropical depression and storm alerts were discontinued for the North Carolina coast.

Aside from citizens who are concerned with hurricanes in their areas, energy traders are also concerned about the possible destructions that hurricanes can bring to oil depots mostly located in the Gulf of Mexico.
