With the recent earthquake in Haiti, a lot of people are still making efforts to give the needs of Haiti victims. One of these people is the famous actor George Clooney.
According to the story, George Clooney called Judy McGrath, the CEO of MTV Networks. At first, she cannot believe that her assitant told her that George Clooney is in the phone. She said: “that’s just Brad Grey [CEO of Paramount Pictures] fooling around.”
But the call wasn’t a prank. Clooney was on the line offering his help for Haitian victims. George Clooney approached Bono, Wyclef, Sting and Bruce [Springsteen].” to set up Hope for Haiti Now – a star-studded two-hour Haiti telethon airing Friday that will feature musical performances from Los Angeles, New York City and London, plus live reporting from CNN’s Anderson Cooper in Haiti.
Launching at 1am (GMT), the Haiti telethon will jump between the three cities in New York, taking in performances from the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Alicia Keys, Justin Timberlake, Stevie Wonder and Sting, while the CNN journalist Anderson Cooper reports live from the devastated Haiti.
After the New York leg of the telethon, A star-studded Haiti telethon is to add a UK leg after Rihanna, Jay-Z, Coldplay and Bono agreed to perform in the early hours of tomorrow morning to raise funds for the earthquake-stricken nation.
Almost 40 TV networks have agreed to screen the Haiti telethon, while an array of influential websites, including YouTube and MySpace, will stream the event in its entirety.
Proceeds from the Haiti telethon will be split evenly between The Clinton Bush Haiti Fund, United Nations World Food Programme, Oxfam America, Partners in Health, The Red Cross, UNICEF and the Yele Haiti Foundation.
The show will be the most widely distributed telethon in history and will air on more than 25 networks.
UPDATE: Hope for Haiti Now raised more than $58 million.
Meanwhile, another Hope for Haiti version dubbed as Unidos Por Haiti was launched targeting mainly Latin American audience.
