Happy Margarita Day: Today is National Margarita Day 2010 – Each year, February 22nd comes and goes, and sadly, most don’t know it is the recognized day to officially celebrate the nation’s most popular cocktail – the Margarita (that’s right, the Margarita!). This National Margarita Day, ditch the tacky store-bought Margarita mix and take a ride on the wild side with Cabo Wabo Tequila’s untamed, ultimate Margarita recipes.
According to the International Bartenders Association’s official recipe, a margarita consists of tequila, Triple Sec (an orange-flavored liqueur), and fresh lime or lemon juice mixed in a 7:4:3 ratio. This comes out to 50% tequila, 29% Triple Sec, and 21% fresh lime or lemon juice.
A margarita can be served shaken (not stirred) with ice, on the rocks (or poured over ice), or straight (no ice). You can also order a frozen margarita, which is blended with crushed ice. No matter how your margarita is poured, however, it will usually be served with salt or sugar on the rim of the glass and a wedge of lime or lemon.
The Herradura Tamarindo Margarita may not look like the everyday margarita but that’s because its ingredients aren’t typically found in a mixed drink. Still, this recipe is a new way to enjoy a marg and mark that salt-rimmed day in a different way.
To commemorate America’s most popular cocktail, the makers of Tequila Herradura have put a new spin on the classic recipe by merging two of Mexico’s most authentic flavors: agave and tamarind.
