Annie Leonard was born in 1964. She is an American proponent of sustainability and critic of excessive consumerism. She is most known for her animated film The Story of Stuff.
The film is a 20-munite viral video. In 2007, the Story of Stuff was released. A new book is out today also written by Annie Leonard, it is called The Story of Stuff. The book has 300 pages that elaborate her viral video sensation. The book exposits more details on production, distribution, consumption and disposal in the stages of the material economy. It includes facts and examples taken all over the world. That’s not all. The stories of real individuals who take part and work for the development of the world are also evident in the book. Examples of these people are the garment workers in Haiti, Nigerians who are resisting oil extraction and many others.
Her film was about America’s take-make-waste cycle of excessive consumerism. It already gained so much fame and now her book “The Story of Stuff” examines and exposes our obsession with stuff and how it contributes in trashing the planet, our communities and most particularly our health. She wrote this book mainly because she received tens of thousands of emails asking for more information than she could possibly compress and fit into the film.
